Event Booking App – Case Study

About the project: This case study is a part of the User Experience Design Bootcamp from General Assembly. The project involved designing an event booking app for students and individuals for search events in the city and book tickets online.

Skills: Competitor Analysis, User Research, Information Architecture, Wireframing, Prototyping, Visual Design and Usability Testing

Tools: Figma, Overflow and Survey Monkey

Design Process:

1. Discover:

In the discover phase, I made a checklist under the design strategy for the people we are trying to solve the problem.

Design Strategy

  • Business Goals: Build trust among people for search events and book online ticket through technology, especially Smartphone app.
  • General Task: Search events near your area, select the event and book tickets online.
  • Marketing: Creating Smartphone app, social media marketing through various platforms.
  • Target Audience: Students, working professionals and individuals.
  • Technology Constraint: Internet, smartphones, gateways.
  • Success Factor: Search events with filters. Book online ticket with various payment methods.

2. Define:

In the define phase, I come to know what is the problem, so I proceed to conduct qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys via survey monkey.

Interview Questions:

  • How often do you attend events?
  • How do you hear about events in your locality?
  • Which types of events would you like to attend?
  • What apps/websites do you use to find events?
  • What information about an event is more important to you?
  • What is the biggest issue related to finding an event?
  • How do you book tickets for events you wish to attend?
  • What details would you like to know about the venue?

Interview Insights

With the answers from the user research, I was able to identify some of the issues that people face and their requirements, while searching for events around them.

  • Users have difficulty finding events, they need to visit many websites and apps to find all required details such as: address, date, time, etc.
  • Users want to book tickets easily with various payment methods.
  • Users want to receive notification of the favourite upcoming event.
  • Users want to see reviews and ratings.

Personas

Based on the survey, I created personas which help to understand better users and their needs.

Empathy Map

I created an empathy map to understand better the user, including what they think, feel and what they want in order to identify any pain points.

3. Ideate:

In this phase, I created user scenarios in order to understand how users will use a product or service to solve their problem.

4. Design & Testing:

Based on all the information gathered during the user research, I created low and high fidelity wireframes to start prototyping and testing.
